Megan. Outward Bound Participant

During lockdown, I decided to run the London Marathon for Outward Bound Trust this October. I wanted to use the current circumstances we all find ourselves in as an opportunity to throw myself into something new, whilst giving the Trust a little hand with fundraising.

After completing a Skills for Life course with Outward Bound in 2016, it left me with a constant curiosity as to how far I can push myself both physically and mentally. Lockdown is allowing me to give plenty of time and focus to this new challenge where normally my schedule is pretty hectic and running a marathon would be the last thing to spring to mind.

A challenge like this with no previous running experience is so daunting, similarly to the first few days on my Outward Bound course; I could not comprehend being physically capable of fulfilling it.

I know it’s going to be hard; I know I’m going to experience some low points and not feel like carrying on, but I also know that the lows will make high points. With the end goal in mind and remembering why I am running, I will finish those 26.2 miles with a smile on my face, just like the day of my course with OB.
