Richard James Smith - Aberdovey, Wales, 1975
I was an Apprentice Electrician with the London Electricity Board and attended course no A, 347 at Aberdovy 7t/h July- 2 August 1975 I alredy was in the Venture Scouts and regularly climbed, caved and canoe'd so this was a wonderfull chance to do all the things I loved for nearly 4 weeks and get paid for it. Being a strong swimmer i enjoyed the canoeing and got my elementary canoeing certificate on the course. My favourite part was when we split in to groups and done a 4 day trek up to Barmouth and then ridge walked to Diffwys, came back down and climbed Cader Idris, walked to Machyileth and then back to camp. We were the first team back and marched in in line singing. Soon after my return I joined the Territorial Army.
