Jeremy Hopkinson - Ullswater, The Lake District, 1961

I was 17 when I went in April. The weather started badly and the first hike was in rain for the first day & a half. The first night cooking under canvass was not a good memory especially as I added too much water to the potatoe mash. Boiling it away took a long tiime but we were hungry. The final hike was a breeze until we were taken to task for not adding an extra three hours for fun. Having done some rock climbing I did more after and the Dolomites were the highlight of my subsequent climbing.
