Ian Henshaw - Ullswater, The Lake District, 1968
I attended course 134 U.along with a mixture of Army & Police recruits.I was a Junior Fireman with Lancashire Fire Service, which i had joined staight from school in September 1967.It was one of the best months of my life.I did have some skills as i was a Queen's Scout, what Ullswater did for me was to develop & cement these skills for life.I also attended 139 Ext.The only sad memory i have is that some years later i learned that Mr Sorrel, one of my instructors, whom i became quite friendly had been shot & killed by a young offender. This was when he had left Ullswater. That had a profound effect on me,but my time at Ullswater helped my to come too terms with that as well.
