David Marshall - Aberdovey, Wales, 1953
I was sent to Aberdovey by Alfred Holts shipping company as a trainee ships steward in 1953.I stayed for 3 months.2 months training in the kitchen and dinning hall and one month on the outward bound course. This period is among the happiest memories of my life.Great comradship, exciting challenges and a sense of achivement at the end.Scariest time was crossing the Cardigan Bay on the 40 foot ketch "Warspite"We hit a huge storm which caused damage to the sails.Everyone was seasick. The skipper had us all sent back from Abersoch by coach.Boy were we relieved.I went on to spend 25 happy years at sea during which I saw the world and got paid for it.
