Barry Martin - Aberdovey, Wales, 1954
Favourite activities were walking in the hills and sailing on the converted motor fishing vessel called,I believe< Golden Valley,We were caught in a full storm between Aberdovey and Fishguard which was traumatic but did not put me off a career at sea.
The Head of the school was an ex Blue Funnel Captain called ,I believe,Fuller who used to ride around the camp on a horse. Our Watch Officer was an RAF Flight Lieutenant who had a 2CV car which we took great delight in dismantling and reassembling on the roof of the main office.
I have good memories of guiding groups of youths from inner city Birmingham around snowdonia but less happy ones of having to swim in the River Dovey early every morning.
